Description
Maskulinity
Maskulinity is a feminist collage made with vintage magazines and uses a simple juxtaposition of the iconic Marlboro Man partially obscuring a masculine fashion still. Intended to provoke discussion about gender performance and relate the problems of gender stereotyping to the men’s as well as the women’s movement. Published for ‘International Mens’ Day’ in Julia Andrews-Clifford’s regular column in the Hastings Independent during the year of Suffrage 100 celebrating 100 years of women in the UK getting the vote. This is an open edition printed in giclee taken from an original photomontage. This cut and paste mixed media is signed by Julia Andrews-Clifford and is part of the ‘Feminist Artwork of the Week’ collection (2018).
