Description
MANifesto
MANifesto is a feminist collage made with vintage magazines. It uses a simple juxtaposition of Teresa May with Margaret Thatcher. They have been the only two female UK female prime ministers who both shared a ‘tough’ stance as the only way to political power. This cut and paste mixed media artwork appeared in Julia Andrews-Clifford’s regular column in the Hastings Independent. It was featured during Brexit negotiations. It raises the question: do female politicians have to invoke masculinist rhetoric to be accepted as national figureheads or is the Hilary Clinton ‘trouser-suit’ approach akin to ‘passing’ and an outmoded form of feminist progress? This is an open edition printed in giclee taken from an original photomontage. This cut and paste mixed media is signed by Julia Andrews-Clifford and is part of the Feminist Artwork of the Week collection (2018).
